RF Micro Needling for Acne Scars
Intensif – the acne scarring breakthrough for ethnic skins
Acne Scars are a difficult problem. Patients with ethnic skins face an even more complicated process in the attempt to get rid of acne scars since laser (and most heat-based procedures) carry a high risk of post-treatment pigmentation. Intensif opens up the capabilities of both micro needling and the safer energy of Radio Frequency.
How is Intensif used for acne scarring?
Intensif’s Micro Needling with Radio Frequency boosts scar-smoothing collagen production while delivering RF energy “below” the pigment producing cells. This reduces the risk of pigmentation following treatment while simultaneously helping address the primary problem of acne scars – the indented scars from tissue destruction.
Benefits of Micro Needling
Micro Needling as a treatment, with or without Radio Frequency energy has become very popular with patients and doctors because
- Know you will get results
- Experience quick, well-tolerated treatments
- Dramatically reduce post treatment pigmentation
- Easily treat sensitive areas

What is the downtime?
We follow a patient-tolerability plan. Acne scars are hard to treat effectively without some level of downtime. If you can allow for some defined downtime, you can elect more aggressive treatment which results in a higher level of improvement. Downtime is something you can discuss with Dr. Pilest.
You may find that you can time off for a single aggressive treatment with several days of downtime followed by lighter treatments that only leave you red for the day. Because the treatment system is individually customizable, you have a lot of control over how you want to progress through the treatment plan.

Combining Intensif with Bellafill
It’s impossible to return skin to pre-scar smoothness via any currently available treatment. Although disheartening to accept the limitations of science, the Intensif treatment’s induction of new collagen, along with scar-specific filler, increases the visual and tactile improvements you can see with your skin.
Bellafill is a permanent component filler that does not break down. And because it integrates with new and existing collagen fibers, it stays in place and provides continuing correction for years. Learn more about Bellafill for acne scars.
When to treat scars
When you treat acne scars does have a lot to do with how well the procedures will work for you and how quickly your skin will recover. Read this article on When Should I Treat My Acne Scars?
