MICRODERMABRASION in Orange County, California

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a simple, no-downtime treatment that helps freshen up your skin by gently removing the dry, dead layer on the surface. It works by exfoliating your skin and clearing away buildup that can make your face look dull or tired. At Total Dermatology, we use DiamondGlow™, which takes it a step further by pairing that exfoliation with a deep serum infusion to hydrate and brighten your skin while we're at it.

The purpose of any type of microdermabrasion is to remove dead, compacted skin cells, which dull the skin, make it rough, and prevent the intended penetration of active skin products. It's a quick, comfortable treatment, and most people walk out of the office already looking a little more glowy. We strive to deliver the best microdermabrasion Irvine has to offer.

Benefits of Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion can make your skin feel softer, smoother, and just better overall. It's also a nice boost if your skin isn't reacting to your products the way it used to—after treatment, your skin absorbs skincare more easily.

Here's what people usually like about it:

  • No downtime
  • Feels like a deep clean for your skin
  • Works on most skin types
  • Helps even out tone and texture
  • It can soften fine lines and lighten dark spots
  • Great before a big event

What Areas of the Body Does Microdermabrasion Address?

While it's most popular for the face, microdermabrasion works on other parts of the body too. It's especially helpful for areas that show signs of sun damage or uneven texture.

  • Face – Brightens, softens fine lines, and clears up congested pores
  • Neck and Chest – Helps smooth and even out tone where the skin is more delicate
  • Back – Can reduce acne and clogged pores
  • Hands – Lightens sun spots and rough patches
  • Arms or Legs – Can improve texture, especially in areas with keratosis pilaris (tiny bumps)

Am I a Candidate for Microdermabrasion?

If your skin feels rough, looks dull, or you're dealing with breakouts or dark spots, microdermabrasion might be a good option. It's gentle and works well for most people, even if you've got sensitive skin.

You're probably a good fit if:

  • You have mild acne or clogged pores
  • Your skin looks uneven or feels bumpy
  • You want a no-downtime refresh
  • You're noticing sun damage or dark spots
  • Your skincare products don't seem to be doing much anymore

Not recommended if: You have active eczema, rosacea, or open wounds. It's best to check in with Dr. Pilest first so we can make sure it's safe for your skin.

Your Microdermabrasion Procedure

At Total Dermatology, we use a method that's a step above traditional microdermabrasion. Instead of the old-school version that just blasts crystals across your skin, we use DiamondGlow™, which combines exfoliation with deep serum infusion for better, longer-lasting results.

Here's how it works:

A diamond-tipped wand gently buffs away dead skin cells while a vacuum pulls impurities out of your pores. At the same time, your skin gets infused with hydrating or clarifying serums—picked specifically for your skin's needs. So while your skin is freshly exfoliated and most able to absorb what it needs, it's getting a boost of ingredients that help it glow and stay healthy.

Older versions of microdermabrasion used high-powered crystals to remove the top layer of skin. It worked well but could feel a bit rough, and it didn't offer the serum delivery we now rely on. With DiamondGlow™, we're still stimulating collagen and refreshing your skin—but we're doing it in a way that's more comfortable and more effective.

The whole process usually takes about 30 minutes, and you're free to go about your day right afterward.

Microdermabrasion Results

Most people notice a difference right away—skin looks cleaner, smoother, and brighter. If you're coming in for something specific, like acne scars or dark spots, we might suggest a series of treatments spaced out over time.

Results usually last a few weeks, and you can extend the benefits by keeping up with a solid skincare routine and regular sunscreen.

Microdermabrasion Recovery

There's really no downtime. You might be a little pink right after, but that usually fades within a few hours. No need to take off work or rearrange your day.

We recommend:

  • Staying out of direct sunlight for at least 24 hours
  • Skipping retinols or strong exfoliants for a day or two
  • Keeping your skin moisturized
  • Wearing SPF every day
